Player ratings: Liverpool failed to beat the 10 man Arsenal side in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield stadium.
Jurgen Klopp’s side started the game without two of their main goal scorers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah due to their commitment to their national team in the Africa Cup of Nations. And without their main goal scorers, the Reds displayed a disappointing display.
The fate of this fixture will be decided in the second leg when the Anfield club will travel to Emirates Stadium in search of the ticket to the final of this competition where Chelsea have already booked their place.
Liverpool player ratings against Arsenal:
Alisson – 6/10
After going down to the 10 men halfway through the first half, Arsenal did create many attacking threats and they couldn’t even trouble the Brazilian for once.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5/10
The Englishman did not enjoy a great time as he failed to produce his trademark crosses for the forward players.
Joel Matip – 6/10
Defensively there wasn’t much threat from the opposition throughout the game and he did not require to do a lot.
Virgil Van Dijk – 6/10
The same can be said about him as well. Liverpool defenders played most of the time on the Gunners territory and didn’t need to do much in defence.
Andrew Robertson – 6/10
Looked good in the first half and didn’t manage to create chances for the attackers in the second half.
Fabinho – 5.5/10
The Brazilian is not having a great time in recent games and he failed to keep the passing tempo in this fixture.
James Milner – 5.5/10
The veteran did not enjoy a great game and was substituted early in the second half.
Jordan Henderson – 6/10
The Englishman showed energy in the middle of the park but could not break down a solid Gunners defence.
Diogo Jota – 5/10
A rare bad day for the Portuguese. Started in the wide position but didn’t look threatening at all.
Roberto Firmino – 5.5/10
Mikel Arteta’s boys dealt with the Brazilian well and didn’t allow him to play his natural game.
Takumi Minamino – 5/10
The best chance of the game fell on the path of the Japanese but he could not keep his control and his shot went way over the crossbar.
Substitute:
Curtis Jones – 6/10
Replaced James Milner on the hour mark and managed to attempt the only on-target of the game.
Joe Gomez – 6/10
The necessity of bringing a new defender wasn’t understandable at that stage of the game. But, the Englishman did a good job.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10
Had around 20 minutes to make his mark on the game but he could not break down his former club’s defensive structure.
Neco Williams – 6/10
Didn’t manage to produce many crosses for the forward players in the dying moments of the game.
