The January transfer deadline day ended and Leicester City was among the busier teams. Brendan Rodgers’ side completed upto five operations as they head towards the second half of the season.
Surprise Acquisition for Leicester
Leicester announced the signing of 17-year-old Amani Richards from Arsenal. The Gunners have already announced his departure.
Richards will be joining the Leicester U-18s for the time being and therefore the club won’t be announcing his signing, as per their policy.
Richards, who had recently joined Arsenal from Chelsea‘s Cobham Academy last February now joins Leicester. He had only signed a professional contract with the Gunners in November.
Upon joining Arsenal, Richards had said:
“A dream come true, signing my first professional contract at my boyhood club. Many challenges to get here, I appreciate everyone who has supported me through the journey. Time to continue the fight.”
However, the teenager who can play centrally in attack or as a winger now joins the Foxes.
Double departure for Leicester on transfer deadline day
The club has confirmed the sale of defender Sam Hughes to Burton Albion. The fee for the sale hasn’t been disclosed by the clubs yet.
The centre back who was already on loan with the Brewers now join joins them on a permanent deal. He signs a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Irish youth international Ali Reghba has also been sold by Leicester City on transfer deadline day. The striker joins Algerian champions CR Belouizdad for an undisclosed fee. The Algerian club announces a deal until 2024.
The transfer comes as a shock to few as Reghba had already fallen out of favour at Leicester this season with numerous strikers ahead of him in the pecking order.
LEICSETER LOAN DEALS
Goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk has been loaned out to Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship.
In addition to Stolarcyzk, Leicester also loaned out Vontae Daley-Campbell with just an hour to go as he joins Dundee who is currently struggling in the Scottish Premiership.
Leicester completed both deals on the deadline day before the transfer market closed.
LEICESTER’S PROBLEMATIC SEASON
The Foxes have endured a tumultuous start to the season as they currently languish at tenth in the Premier League table. Furthermore, Leicester has some difficult fixtures ahead of them as they look to make a turnaround. With a season already plagued by injuries, the fans won’t be too optimistic seeing the team’s lack of signings in the winter window.
Leicester looks to start talks with Left-Back James Justin who recently returned from a long term injury and was described by manager Brendan Rodgers as sort of a new signing.
The Foxes will hope to secure a European spot and thus drag their season back on track. They have been unlucky with injuries but new signing Patson Daka has caught the eye of the Leicester faithful. The Zambian has already scored 4 times and assisted thrice. Although Jamie Vardy doesn’t intend on stopping anytime soon, Leicester might have found a worthy replacement for the prolific English International.
Nevertheless, a stern test awaits the 2015-16 champions who have been a real threat in the last few seasons, more so with the arrival of Rodgers.
