Leeds United pushing for Liverpool star Minamino

About Football Express UK

With just hours left for the transfer window to close, Leeds United are trying to sign Takumi Minamino. The Peacocks are looking to bring in the Liverpool star on a loan deal to improve their squad.

As per many reports including that of Leeds Live, Takumi Minamino is one of the main targets for manager Marcelo Bielsa. However, with limited time in hand, a loan deal looks like the most possible option.

Leeds sit 15th in the Premier League table and are 7 points above the relegation zone. But, the club wants to reinforce in January to keep hold of their place in the league.

UNABLE TO IMPRESS

For Takumi Minamino the move to Liverpool never truly worked in his favour. The Japanese could not cement his place in the starting eleven, often making appearances as a substitute or in cup matches.

The 27-year-old was even sent on a loan to Southampton, though he only made 10 appearances for the Saints. Minamino has featured in a total of 49 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 10 goals. While most of these appearances are as substitutes, showing that when he is on the pitch he can deliver.

Minamino is an excellent winger, as shown during his spell in RB Salzburg. However, for the Japanese, he had to compete with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota for places in the Liverpool attack. With Liverpool adding Luiz Diaz to the attack, it surely will end his time at Liverpool.

MINAMINO THE TARGET FOR LEEDS

There is interest for Minamino in the transfer market. Apart from Leeds United, reports suggest that Monaco are monitoring his situation. But all the initial move for the Liverpool winger was rejected by the club due to their depleted squad.

However, with the addition of Luiz Diaz and with the AFCON stars set to return soon, the Reds could be ready to sell. With only hours left for the January window to close, a loan deal looks to be the more possible option.

Leeds are looking to add attacking options to the team, with injuries severely impacting their squad. With the relegation sides reinforcing in January, Leeds are hoping to stay above them by bringing signings of their own.
