Leeds United 1-0 Crystal Palace: Post Match Analysis

About Football Express UK

Leeds United faced Crystal Palace in the 14th Gameweek of the Premier League. The hosts were playing at Elland Road and the match was at a deadlock until Raphinha scored an injury-time penalty.

There was a great chance for The Eagles but Benteke sent his header out wide. He also had one more chance but Leeda goalkeeper Meslier got to it quickly.

Crystal Palace also thought they had a penalty in the first half. This happened when Pascal Struijk challenged Jordan Ayew but VAR Kevin Friend turned down their appeal.

Raphinha was named Man Of The Match. He was one of the best players on the pitch. As usual, he displayed his brilliant range of passing and ultimately great composure when it came to taking the penalty.

As of now, Leeds are 15th in the League just five points above the relegation zone. Crystal Palace on the other hand are 12th in the table despite facing back to back losses.

Team changes and news for Leeds United and Crystal Palace

The first half of the match was not as attacking as expected for Leeds. Bielsa then brought on Junior Firpo and Rodrigo to bolster their attacking ranks.

Bielsa made three changes from Leeds’s previous match against Brighton. He brought in Mateusz Klich, Pascal Struijk, Tyler Roberts and dropped Firpo, Rodrigo and Harrison.

On Saturday, Viera’s Crystal Palace lost 2-1 to Aston Villa. After that he handed starts to Jeffrey Schlupp, Odsonne Edouard and Ayew with Benteke and Olise on the bench.

Post Match comments from Marcel Bielsa

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa

It was a victory that was very necessary. In the campaign so far we have picked up few points and in every game there is points at play that can help us improve our campaign.

The team fought the whole game, that is true, it’s necessary. Either way our team usually gives everything in every game.

Interesting takeaways from the match.

1} Leeds United have won all of their matches against Crystal Palace since 2006

2} Raphinha has scored 46.2 percent of goals for his team whereas only  Pukki has scored more for Norwich (62.5 percent of goals).

3} Crystal Palace have dropped points three times this season after conceding in the 90th minute. Against Brighton in September, Arsenal in October and Leeds in December).

4} Leeds have been very clinical and have successfully converted each of their last PL penalties.
