Everton coach Frank Lampard has called for patience over the form of star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Englishman recently made a return to the squad after being out with an injury.

Calvert-Lewin is yet to score following his four-month layoff from injury earlier in the campaign, having found the back of the net in each of his three Premier League matches before his issue.

The 24-year-old had suffered a quadricep injury in September. He has been having an uphill season with injuries being his constant companion.

Lampard is backing his star man to be a constant threat again soon. The manager is confident about Calvert-Lewin turning his form around once he has settled in.

Talking to Liverpool ECHO about this, the 43-year-old had this to say:

“A striker at the top end of the pitch is always at the edge in sharpness, and we can’t expect all of that.”

“I thought he was really good last week against Leeds. Again, today I think you would have a case to say that after the first 20 minutes and early in the second half, he didn’t get enough service.”

“We didn’t play through the lines well enough. We can’t use Dominic as a battering ram, he has too much quality for that and I don’t want to use him that way.”

“It’s two-fold – make sure we give him time and give him service to play around him as much as we can.”

“It wasn’t a game to judge Dominic on goal input today. We know that when he gets fit, we get better. He will be a big threat for us.”

CALVERT-LEWIN KEY TO EVERTON’S SEASON

While the striker might struggle due to injury, there is no doubt about his commitment to the Everton shirt.

After the recent bad result against Southampton, the striker was apologetic to the fans:

“I apologise to the fans who travelled because no-one will be more disappointed than them.”

Calvert-Lewin will hope to find his form soon as Everton will endure a tough second half of the season. The Toffees currently sit on 16th, level on points with Newcastle at 17th. The Magpies have played a game more however one loss and Everton will be right there with them.

Lampard will hope that his talisman returns to form again. Dominic has shown time and time again the threat he possesses. It is only a matter of time before he starts scoring again.
