Atlético Madrid defender Kieran Trippier has reportedly prepared to wait until the end of this transfer window to make a return to Premier League football with Manchester United as per the report in Manchester Evening News.
The 30-year-old made the move to the Spanish capital from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2019. Thus, he enjoyed a stellar season with the Rojiblancos in the last term, helping the club to triumph La Liga title for the 11th time. The Englishman made it in the national squad for the Euro 2020. Thereafter, making a few appearances but failing to get past Italy’s challenge in the final.
The Red Devils are looking for an experienced backup option to Aaron Wan-Bissaka. After having great success with Alex Telles last time around for Luke Shaw. The Atletico man is eager to return to his land Manchester. And United are also interested in signing the former Spurs man.
Can Manchester United sign Kieran Trippier this summer?
According to MEN, the 30-year-old expects any move to the record Premier League champions could materialise towards the end of the transfer window. After securing the transfers of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, the Red Devils are looking to trim down the squad. Moreover, they can look after selling players who are not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan.
Despite the player entering the final year of his current contract, Diego Simeone’s are not ready to let go of their asset for cheap. They have set a €40 million asking price for their left-back. The player has already relocated his family to Manchester. Trippier is excited to play for his boyhood club Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been chasing the Englishman international’s service for quite some time now. However, it will not be easy to lure the defender away from the Rojiblancos’ grasp, despite the player’s interest to leave.
Manchester United have had a very good transfer window so far. With Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane’s(depending on passing the medical) signatures have already been secured by the club. Trippier to United will be a very good reinforcement to the defensive department. However, they have to buy a specialist defensive midfielder who will protect the back four and play proactive passes from the deep.
