On Matchday 13, Leicester forward Jamie Vardy scored a brace against Watford. The Foxes, thanks to the help of Vardy and Maddison, won against Watford. They won 4-2 against them and this took Vardy’s goal tally to 93 league goals since turning 30.
Only Ian Wright now matches Jamie Vardy in terms of goals scored after turning 30.
Mohammad Salah has been incredible for Liverpool this season but Vardy is underrated. Vardy’s brace took him to 9 goals in 13 appearances for Leicester in the league. He has scored a minimum of 15 plus goals since turning 30. Vardy also scored 23 goals and had 5 assists in his best individual season (2019/20).
Jamie Vardy vs Didier Drogba. Who is the bigger legend?
On September 20, Vardy scored a brace against West Brom and broke another record, that too off Drogba. Earlier Dider Drogba had scored 104 in 254 games but Vardy scored 105 that too in 212 games. The fact that he pulled off this feat in 42 fewer games is very commendable.
On that day he also broke another record. Ruud Nistelrooy along with Vardy are the only two players to score against West Brom 5 times in all away matches. Vardy initially broke Van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive games. He scored 11 goals in a row, hence also breaking Nistelrooy’s record.
Talking about Dider Drogba, the former Chelsea player has a record of his own. Drogba has scored 11 goals in 12 finals and many often consider him the best clutch player. In total, Drogba has 148 goals for Chelsea including goals scored in the Champions League.
Jamie Vardy is a great striker, and when he retires he will be one of the best strikers of the Premier League. But since he has not played in as many finals as Drogba or the Champions League as well, Drogba is a bigger legend overall.
Drogba has played in more finals than Vardy, he has scored more in the Champions League as well. He also has won way more than Jamie Vardy.
In terms of the better Premier League legend, Vardy if not now then definitely at the end of his career will be better than Drogba. His unexpected victory with Leicester City to win the league in 2015/16. That season alone was phenomenal, he was key during that season. But Jamie Vardy is not a one-season wonder and he has scored 15 plus goals in every season till then.
