Ivan Toney might leave Brentford for a meager sum this summer

Brentford might sell Ivan Toney, a Chelsea target, this summer for just £50 million, per respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Ivan Toney, aged 27, often features in transfer rumors, particularly as a central striker. Despite his recent return from suspension, he has already scored two goals in two Premier League matches for Brentford.

This week, Simon Phillips reported on his Substack that Brentford intends to seek £50m-£60m for Toney post-season. Chelsea, among other clubs, are monitoring the 27-year-old English center-forward.

Additionally, the Blues have cultivated connections with Ivan Toney representatives and consider him a potential target in their discussions.

Simon Phillips said: “I understand that Brentford are set to ask for a fee of around £50m-£60m in the summer, with the striker entering his final year of his contract… There are many teams interested and watching Toney’s performances this season, including Chelsea.”

“The Blues established relations with Toney’s reps last season and have kept in contact. There has always been split opinions on the board as to whether Toney is the one that they should go for, but he’s still very much in the conversations.”

Will Chelsea go for Ivan Toney?

Brentford manager Thomas Frank recently indicated, as quoted by BBC Sport, that Toney will “probably” be sold at the end of the season. Given the speculated £50m-£60m price range, Chelsea should strongly consider pursuing a deal for him.

The only reservation lies in Toney’s lack of experience scoring for an elite club. However, he’s a versatile forward deserving of the chance. Pep Guardiola recently lauded him as an “exceptional player”, a significant accolade from one of football’s greatest managers, as reported by The Independent.
