Trevoh Chalobah first started in a Premier League for Chelsea against Crystal Palace. The youngster was not only solid defensively but also scored a goal against them.
Chalobah worked his way up the ranks to play for Chelsea. He spent seasons on loan at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient. The failed transfer of Jules Kounde and the transfer of Zouma to West Ham provided a spot.
Even yesterday Trevoh scored the opening goal against Juventus. In the entire match, Chelsea dominated the Bianconeri whereas Chalobah displayed a good defensive performance. He earned the Man Of The Match Award.
Rudiger and Thiago Silva both have been great for Chelsea whereas Christensen has also played well. But surely Tuchel would like to play a talented youngster like Chalobah since he is the future of the club. Likely, The Blues will not play Christensen much since they already have adequate defenders available.
Addressing Thomas Tuchel’s amazing defensive record with Chelsea.
Tuchel has initiated a defensive revolution with The Blues. They only managed three clean sheets under Frank Lampard in his last 12 games.
Under Tuchel, they have only conceded 24 games. In the history of top-flight managers, nobody has conceded fewer than Tuchel in the first 50 games. Earlier Jose Mourinho held the record in 2004 when his team conceded 27 goals in 50 games.
Statistical Analysis of Chelsea’s defensive record
The Blues have conceded only 2.83 shots on target p90. They are second behind Manchester City who has 1.64 shots on target conceded p90.
Chelsea’s defenders are excellent but their keepers are something else entirely. Edouard Mendy and Kepa have saved 94 per cent of shots which they have faced this season. In Manchester United, De Gea has managed to save only 58 per cent which highlights the importance of a solid backline.
Their defensive record is almost perfect but Tuchel uses the wingbacks differently. Talking about a particular wingback from Chelsea, Reece James is arguably the best right-back on current form.
Reece is solid defensively but under Tuchel he is shining offensively as well. He has 10 goal contributions in 12 matches for Chelsea and has 4 goals in the Premier League.
Tuchel is often criticised for being a defensive manager but his defenders have been a bigger threat in attack. Chelsea defenders have assisted in 12 goals in all competitions which means that they have a direct contribution of 70 per cent.
