Timothy Castagne is currently unavailable after picking up an injury. However, Inter is still feigning interest in the Leicester City player. According to FCInternews, Inter is looking to sign Timothy before the winter break.
Inter’s manager Simone Inzaghi is keen on signing Timothy Castagne from Leicester. Simone also wanted him three years ago when he was at Lazio. Castagne is already familiar with Italian football since he has already done well with Atalanta before.
However, the report states that Inter has a problem with the structure of the deal. Inter are looking for a loan until the end of the season where they will cover only the player’s wages. Leicester on the other hand is insisting on a loan with a redemption obligation which implies that the Serie A side will have to make a permanent transfer in the summer.
Timothy’s current contract with Leicester City will end in June 2025.
The structure of the deal seems bizarre because Brendan Rodgers is fond of Timothy Castagne and has used him in his squad as well.
How good was Timothy Castagne at Atalanta in Serie A?
Timothy is a very versatile player. He has played in the past as a wide midfielder on both the left and right sides of the pitch. Castagne has played a few games at left-back as well whereas his main position is at right-back.
The Belgian international has spent three years in the Italian league with Atalanta. He was not an injury-prone player and was a regular starter, especially in the 2019/20 season in which he has 33 appearances. He helped them achieve a top-three finish where they finished just six points behind Juventus.
Timothy also helped Atalanta reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history where PSG beat them. He has also racked up 75 appearances in the Italian league where he has 5 goals and 7 assists.
