Liverpool will look to build on their good form as they will welcome Southampton for their upcoming Premier League match. The Reds are coming back from a 4-0 win against Arsenal in the league and will be looking forward to adding three more points.
Premier League is entering its busiest December period. With matches coming thick and fast, it is vital for both Liverpool and Southampton to get positive results.
Liverpool is currently sitting third on the league table, 4 points behind league leaders Chelsea. Southampton on the other hand is 13th with 14 points from a possible 36. Here is a look at how both sides could look going into the match.
LIVERPOOL VS SOUTHAMPTON: PREVIEW
The Reds go into the match with few injuries and doubts. They were without many of their main players last weekend against Arsenal. However, the Champions League victory against Porto saw some of their players returning to the pitch, giving some positive news.
This includes the likes of Andrew Robertson, Divock Origi and James Milner, who all came of the bench. Diogo Jota is also a doubt after picking up a knock against Arsenal. But he did make it into the bench, though was not used.
However, Liverpool will be without some of their other stars. Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez are still weeks away from being back in the team. The same is the case for Harvey Elliott who is recovering back from a serious ankle injury. But there is good news as Naby Keita could be available for the weekend, though he will most likely be fit only for the bench.
For Southampton, the major absentees are Jack Stephens and Stuart Armstrong. Both of them will not be available for the weekend and the Saints will be expected to go with limited changes in their lineup.
POSSIBLE LINEUPS AND PREDICTIONS
Liverpool: Alisson Becker (GK); Alexander- Arnold, Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Robertson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Jota, Mane.
Southampton: Alex McCarthy (GK); Livramento, Bednarek, Saliu, Walker-Peters; Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Elyounoussi, Diallo; Che Adams. Adam Armstrong.
PREDICTIONS: Liverpool 3- 0 Southampton
A free-scoring Liverpool will in most likelihood be too much for Southampton. The Saints are inconsistent and could find it difficult to keep the opposition attackers silent. With the title race heating up, Liverpool will be hoping not to slip up, especially in a week when Chelsea faces Manchester United and Manchester City faces West Ham United.
