Harry Kane signed a new contract for Tottenham Hotspurs till 2025. He and Son are the stars of the team but football is a team sport.
He has had the worst start to a season since 2015-16. The English international has failed to score in 4 games in the league.
Kane only has 4 shots this season. Against Crystal Palace, he failed to register a shot on target. Nuno Espírito was also poor for Spurs but Kane cannot carry them anymore.
Harry Kane even requested to let him leave for Manchester City but Daniel Levy did not let him. As of now, he has 2 goals and assists in 11 PL games.
How good was Harry Kane in his prime?
In the 2020/21 season, Kane scored 23 goals and had 14 assists in 38 games. ( Source: Transfermarkt). He won the League golden boot but note that this is not even his best season.
Kane was phenomenal in the 2017-18 season. The striker had the most goals for club and country in 2017. He scored 56 goals in 52 games for club and country. He ranked above Messi, Ronaldo, Cavani and Lewandowski.
Harry broke the record for most goals in a calendar year. Alan Shearer scored 36 in 1995 but Kane topped the record after scoring 39 in 2017.
The England international also scored 8 hat-tricks. Six in the Premier League and 2 hat-tricks in back to back matches.
He scored 2 consecutive hat-tricks, one against Leicester and Hull in may. The other was in December against Burnley and Southampton.
After a wonderful season, Kane has provided consistent performances for the Spurs. Even in the 2018/19 season, when they reached the UCL final. He had 5 goals and 1 assist in the tournament where they eventually lost in the final.
Harry Kane has shown his loyalty to Spurs but it’s time to leave. Even if Kane does make a comeback, Spurs are still not contenders. Conte can indeed help them in terms of winning a trophy.
But if Antonio Conte fails, then Kane should leave and go to a different club. Somewhere he can win trophies and cement his legacy. Individually he is amazing but in terms of trophies, he is nowhere to be seen.
