Harry Kane has confirmed that he will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur this season. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player at the beginning of the season wanted to leave the club. Due to this transfer saga, continuing to the end of the window Harry Kane now wishes to stay with Tottenham. It must be said the only club that wished to sign the player this season was Manchester City. It has been reported that the club had offered swap deals for players. As well as agree to give an offer of over 150 million Pounds.
Before we get to if this move will benefit Harry Kane or it could backfire massively for the player. We need to realise who and how good Harry Kane has been during his playing career. Harry Kane turned 28 years old this season. He is the England Captain as well as the Captain for Tottenham Hotspur. Currently, he is said to be valued at £108.00m according to Transfermarkt. While one might say his value could be inflated due to his nationality. It would make quite the compelling case but it isn’t the case. Harry Kane in his playing career has played 299 games and has scored 180 goals. While in the eyes he would be a selfish striker which could be true but last season he changed his playing style. Due to this he scored 23 goals and assisted 14 goals for Tottenham Hotspur.
This feat had made him the top goal scorer while being the top assister as well. It must also be stated that due to being in Tottenham for the past 9 years and being an academy player of that club. Harry Kane hasn’t won a Trophy at all.
Why were Manchester City so keen on signing Harry Kane this season?
This season after Kun Aguero left the club to join Barcelona, Manchester City only have Gabriel Jesus who players as a striker. Last season Manchester City were known to have won the league utilizing a system consisting of no strikers. Harry Kane in their eyes was the piece of the puzzle left for the club to win the UEFA Champions League.
While the player would come at an expensive transfer fee of over £150m it would make sense to a certain point. Firstly Harry Kane due to being the captain of the England national team. Due to this, there will be a massive number of Sponsorships which immediately go into the hands of Manchester City. Secondly, as he is a player of England there will be a hidden English tax on the player transfer fee.
