Haaland close to Manchester City, claims club Legend

About Football Express UK

Manchester City supporters were given a big boost as club legend says the club is close to signing Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the key targets for the Premier League champions.

The latest development in the Erling Haaland transfer saga came when Manchester City legend Shaun Goater gave a reply on Twitter. In response to one of the fans asking Goater to confirm the signing of Haaland, the club legend said that they are close.

While this could be banter from Shaun Goater, it surely has raised the hopes of the Citizens. Erling Haaland is one of the key targets as Manchester City are trying to bring in as a centre-forward.

HAALAND ONE OF THE MAIN TARGET FOR MANCHESTER CITY

Manchester City has been in the market for a striker after the departure of their club legend Sergio Aguero in the summer. The club initially wanted to sign Harry Kane, but Tottenham Hotspur was not ready to sell their talisman.

While City still fancies bringing in Harry Kane, the club is now more open to bringing in a younger centre-forward. Erling Haaland is one of the targets for the club alongside the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Julian Alvarez.

Haaland is the best option among the current centre-forwards considering his ridiculous goalscoring form. The latest tweet from Shaun Goater will surely fuel the transfer rumours. With the Norwegians release clause coming into effect from the summer, City will be pushing hard to get things done.

Apart from Manchester City, many other clubs are looking to sign Haaland in the summer. This includes the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG. Borussia Dortmund is also keen to keep hold of their superstar as they are also in talk to extend his contract.

JULIAN ALVAREZ COULD UPSET HAALAND PLAN

While Manchester City fans might get carried away with the reply from Shaun Goater, there is other news coming from the Premier League champions camp. In recent weeks, there have been strong links between River Plate striker, Julian Alvarez, and Manchester City for a move in January.

If that were to happen, then chances for a Haaland move to Manchester City could diminish. Already there are reports that state that the Norwegian striker prefers Spain instead of England.

The Citizens already have Gabriel Jesus in their team as a centre-forward, though Pep Guardiola does not use him much in that role. The addition of Julian Alvarez to the team will further increase competition for places in the Manchester City team. Haaland will be demanding more playing time and hence might not prefer the move.

There is still plenty of time before the end of the current season. And if Julian Alvarez joins City in January and hit the ground running they might decide not to pursue Haaland so aggressively. With almost all the top clubs looking to sign Haaland in the summer, one thing is sure, it won’t be easy.
