Gomez incredibly impressed Gary Linker in Liverpool vs City clash

Manchester City

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a brilliant 1-1 draw yesterday as the battle at the top continued to heat up. There we saw Joe Gomez, playing another incredible match.

The draw between two of English football’s biggest teams ensured it’s Arsenal who sit top of the table heading into the international break.

Of course, it was a game high in both intensity and quality. The draw was a fair result, with both attackers and defenders having their moments in the 90 minutes.

Indeed, one player to impress on the day was Liverpool defender, Joe Gomez. The £85k-a-week man has stepped into multiple positions recently. And speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker admitted he was very impressed by the former Charlton man.

Gomez had an impressive performance for Liverpool:

Speaking about Gomez and how he’s fitted in this season, Lineker admitted he’d been very impressed by the defender this season.

“I have to say I was incredibly impressed with Joe Gomez yesterday. Particularly in the second half. He was playing in all sorts of positions across the back four and also inverted full-back moving inside. Has he played himself into the England squad?,” Lineker said.

Liverpool only paid £3.5m for Joe Gomez and still only 26, it’s proven a great piece of business for the Reds.

Yesterday, against one of the best sides in the world, Gomez showed he belonged at the very top and proved to Jurgen Klopp he is a key player.

Naturally, with Andy Robertson coming back, Gomez might find himself out of the team. But overall, he’s showing himself to be a crucial player in this squad.

Over the course of the season, you need players who can come in, do a job, and fill multiple positions.

Gomez is that man for Liverpool and you can really tell that the Anfield crowd really appreciates him.
