Frenkie De Jong could finally agree to a deal to join Manchester United this summer

About Football Express UK

Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong has supposedly reconsidered his decision to join Manchester United this season.

The 25-year-old has been engaged in an elongated transfer saga with the Red Devils from the opening of the transfer market. Initially, Barcelona had no mood to sell of their priced midfielder which was evident in Joan Laporta’s comments. He insisted that De Jong was not for sale.

However, now it is known that United have agreed to a £72million transfer fee for De Jong. Still, the hurdle that remained was to agree with De Jong on personal terms. De Jong had previously referred to Barcelona as his ‘dream club’ and he was determined to stay at Camp Nou.

Is a move to Manchester United for Frenkie De Jong on the cards?

The Mirror has presently reported that the Dutchman’s public comments differ from his inner feelings. Moreover, he is now ready to make a move to Old Trafford.

De Jong owes around £17m in deferred wages from Barcelona. Now, his agent Ali Dursun and himself have made a wise strategy to get the full payment before moving to United. The report further adds that they do not want to make it public as this would affect their position in recovering the payments from the Catalan club.

United can pay the deferred wages of De Jong. However, they are bounded by the regulations of FIFA and UEFA. Interestingly, Erik Ten Hag and De Jong are said to be in regular contact. Moreover, Ten Hag is willing to wait till the end of this transfer window to sign the talented star.

Barca have made two big signings in quick succession and with their precarious finances, they want to offload some players in order to accommodate the new ones.

Therefore, they are also now pushing to offload De Jong this summer and the deal with United to go through.
