Frank Lampard eyes quality signings as he seeks to undo years of bad signings

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard’s Everton had a narrow escape from the relegation zone, last season.

They were not clear of the relegation till the last day of the Premier League. They remained just above the thwarted relegation line at the conclusion of the Premier League 2021-22 campaign.

There was consternation within the Everton camp that they would have to offload players if they were to buy good players. Moreover, the exit of prominent players would also have to be taken into consideration.

Therefore, when asked a question related to this matter, Lampard replied:

If that is the case we will sit down and try and work the best way through it.”

He was optimistic to keep Richarlison, Jordan Pickford, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, he did not make a promise to keep the players.

The Brazilian striker’s late goal against Crystal Palace, back in May, kept Everton in contention for the League.

However, he too was picked up by Tottenham in this summer transfer market. Similarly, in the past Everton has paid a price by losing out on good players.

Everton have had some good signings in recent years like Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, and Pickford. They were coupled with Demarai Gray, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Ben Godfrey.

However, these good signings were marred by a host of bad signings.

More than half a billion was spent on transfers under Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.

Moreover, another problem that has plagued Everton is most of the new signings have been injury prone. Like Yerry Mina, James Rodrigues, Allan-they all have been injury-prone.

What should be Frank Lampard’s aim for this transfer market?

It seems that the motto of Everton going into the summer transfer market is ‘low risk’ and ‘low cost’.

It should be mentioned here that they have started well.

They got James Tarkowski as a free transfer. Everton got the player for free when clubs were bidding £ 30 million for the player.

Moreover, he has great Premier League experience.

Next on their list include Jesse Lingard, who is again free on the market.

However, picking him up would be difficult.
