FC Barcelona have parted ways with Ronald Koeman.

About Football Express UK

After facing a defeat against newly-promoted side Rayo Vallecano, FC Barcelona sacked Ronald Koeman.

Rayo Vallecano had not defeated Barcelona for 14 years but yesterday a goal by Falcao saw them prevail. His job was on the ropes after losing against Benfica in the champions league and also losing in the El Clasico. The board also prepared for this managerial change in advance. According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona initiated talks with Xavi weeks ago.

Did Koeman actually do a good job for FC Barcelona?

In 2019/20 Bayern Munich thrashed Barcelona 8-2 and Quique Setien was sacked. Ronald Koeman took over the club and turned them into a title-contending team.

The lack of funds also affected Koeman and the players of FC Barcelona. There were urgent requirements in specific positions but they were not fulfilled.

Despite these problems, Barcelona came third in the league and also won the Copa Del Rey. They proved to be persistent in  Copa Del Rey and did not give up.

In the following season, Barcelona lost their greatest player ever, Lionel Messi. This impacted the club differently.

Without Messi, their playing style changed under Koeman. He tried to adopt a new defensive playstyle. Koeman gave chances to  youngsters like Nico Gonzalez ,Gavi ,Balde ,Mingueza ,Pedri and many more.

Barcelona now has many talented youngsters who can be put to great use under a great manager.

Koeman, just like Frank Lampard had done the job within their capabilities. Both of them brought out many talented youngsters.

His choice to not play Riqui Puig was criticised but overall he was a decent coach.

Koeman as well as the board made mistakes. The club got rid of legend Luis Suarez because he was an ageing player.

Soon they proceeded to buy Luuk De Jong who is not even half the player of Suarez. He is 32 years old and not a player worthy to play at FC Barcelona.

Luuk De Jong and Depay were brought because Koeman backed them. Despite De Jong being of no use, Depay is a good signing.
