Barca, both under Xavi and Koeman, have one common situation. Under both managers, there has been no end product, lack of finishing or merely in simpler terms, lack of a proper striker. Despite the club improving under Xavi, they will require the presence of a frontman up ahead.
Aguero is out with a heart problem and Luuk De Jong and Brathwaite are just not good enough. Memphis Depay plays better as a winger than as a striker. Hence they are looking to sign Marcus.
According to El Nacional, Manchester United will demand £60 million for Rashford. Barcelona are also in debt and they will have to let go of some players in order to spend big.
Marcus’s contract with The Red Devils ends in 2023 and the report states that club president Joan Laporta is also interested in bringing him.
Rashford has so far 4 goals and assists this season in 11 appearances for United.
How can Rashford fit in at FC Barcelona?
At Barca, currently, there is a lack of attacking options because of injuries but let’s consider all of them.
Memphis Depay is the club’s number 9 but he cannot play as a striker. He often plays as an LW and even if he has a central role, Depay is not a poacher. Despite criticism, he has shown good signs and can possibly be an asset to the club.
FC Barcelona will definitely let go of Luuk De Jong and Martin Brathwaite. If Ousmane Dembele is to stay then he will play from the right-wing. Marcus Rashford himself is not a striker, his general position is LW. He has played in several different positions for United.
However, he is the most effective from the LW and can certainly play for Barca, but under a different position. Currently, Ansu Fati is the best finisher at FC Barcelona. Once he returns, the club can adopt a formation of 4-4-2.
Marcus is a player with great technical abilities and has rattled right-backs in the PL from that position. Rashford can play as an LM and Dembele can play as an RM, with Depay and Fati upfront. Often Marcus has shown at United that he can beat defenders easily and cut in from the left to score or create chances.
