Former midfielder Danny Murphy was full of praise for Aston Villa ace Matty Cash and stated that it was the right decision for the fullback to switch his international team.
The 24-years-old joined the Villans back in 2020 from Nottingham Forest for a fee of around £14 million. The defender is enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring three goals and assisting as many times in 29 Premier League appearances.
The fullback decided to change his national football team from England to Poland last year, given his mother is Polish. And the Villa man’s decision was applauded by Danny Murphy.
Speaking on TalkSports(via HITC), Murphy said that Cash is a great signing for Aston Villa and the 24-years-old has been excellent since joining the Birmingham club. The ex-player further stated that the fullback’s decision of switching the national team was justified as England has an abundance of talent in that position and the Villa man would struggle to break into the starting eleven. Murphy said:
“He’s some player that lad. Brilliant signing. He has been absolutely terrific. But you are talking about a position. Unfortunately for him, where we have some of the best players on the planet. When you talk about Kyle Walker, Reece James, Trent and Kieran Trippier. It’s bizarre having that much talent in one position. So, I fully understand Cash’s decision to represent Poland.”
Aston Villa defender Matty Cash secure a place in World Cup with Poland:
Poland has qualified for the World Cup 2022 after beating Sweden at home by 2-0 in the playoff final. Robert Lewandowski scored the opener from the spot in the second half before Piotr Zielinski doubled the margin for the Eagles.
Aston Villa man Matty Cash played the whole game. And despite enduring a difficult time on the night, his side booked the tickets for Qatar. The defender is set to be involved in the World Cup with Poland in November. And this situation shows that the 24-years-old’s decision to switch his national team was justified.
