Everton vs Liverpool: Match Preview

The first Merseyside derby of the season will take place on Wednesday night when Liverpool takes on Everton. The free-scoring Reds will look to continue their domination of the fixture, while the Toffees will be desperate to end their poor form.

Another important story of this year’s derby will be Everton manager Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard was a former boss of Liverpool and won them their historic Champions League title in 2005.

Everton is on a horrible 7 match winless run in the Premier League including their 1-0 loss to newcomers Brentford last Sunday. Liverpool on the other hand are clear favourites and are in a terrific form which saw them win two back to back Premier League games 4-0.

The Toffees are struggling on the injury front, especially with some of their key players not available for selection. Dominic Calvert Lewin has been the biggest miss for Everton, with the striker recovering from injury. The other players out due to injury are Yerry Mina, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes.

Demarai Gray is also a doubt however, the home side can be happy with the return of Richarlison from his suspension. But Mason Holgate will not be available for selection as he has to miss one more match due to suspension.

For Liverpool, there are no fresh injury concerns after their excellent victory over Southampton. However, the side will be without long term absentees Roberto Firmino, Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones.

EVERTON: Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey, Lucas Digne; Andros Townsend, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Alex Iwobi; Demarai Gray; Richarlison.

LIVERPOOL: Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara; Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane.

PREDICTIONS: Everton 0 – 3 Liverpool

Liverpool is the top scorer in the league with 39 goals from 13 matches. They have scored in every single match of the Premier League this season and it will be difficult for Everton to stop this run.

While Benitez will be hopeful of winning points from his former side. But it is very unlikely that his Everton side that has failed to score in the last three matches will pose a big threat to Liverpool.
