Everton owner Farhad Moshiri rules out sacking Rafael Benitez

About Football Express UK

On Matchweek 14, Liverpool beat Everton 4-1. Following the Merseyside derby defeat, The Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri has ruled out the potential sacking of Rafael Benitez.

Benitez took charge of Everton from the start of the season but is facing a difficult spell of results.

Farhad Moshiri told Talksport that

“Next two weeks, we will get to a full squad and, in the meantime, results will improve. Rafa needs time to have his mark on the squad. He will be supported to add depth to the squad. Managers need time. I have no doubt that we will have a strong second-half to the season.”

As of now, they will face Arsenal next and it will be a difficult fixture because the Gunners have improved a lot.

Can clubs like Everton compete in today’s modern game?

The modern game has changed a lot and has become more money minded. Rarely there are players who would want to go to a club for development instead of going to one for money.

Everton is a great example amongst many other clubs who can’t compete with today’s best clubs. Surely clubs like Manchester United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea have worked their way to the top. But money and spending play a huge role in this. Leading a money injected side to victory is also difficult but to lead a team without sufficient financial backing from the owners is the most difficult.

Jurgen Klopp led an average Liverpool side in 2015 and three years later they won the UCL and the Premier League title. From 2015 to 2020, The Scousers have only spent £107 million whereas Everton have spent almost double than them.

A club does not need a huge chunk of money for just 2-3 particular seasons. Everton does not have one of the best academies, the best sporting project or any pulling power. Spending £223 million, half of which was unnecessary. There was no good outcome after spending so much money. This is all because of poor ownership and particularly wrong investment.

Everton cannot compete with the top clubs because of poor and incorrect investment. To be a top club, there should be world-class players as well as top management in every field. Rafael Benitez, just like previous Everton managers, has possibly taken this job to either kick-start his career again or just for the experience.
