After the Coronavirus anarchy in the Spain squad, Luis Enrique’s side set to underway their Euro 2020 campaign on Monday against Sweden at Estadio de la Cartuja.
The Spanish side will certainly be less prepared and might have a shortage of fitness after spending a few days in isolation. However, in the friendly game against Portugal, La Furia Roja looked excellent.
Spain are in Group E alongside Poland, Slovakia and Sweden. Even though Luis Enrique’s side have suffered a blow of Covid-19 just before the competition. They are still the favourites to go through to the knock-out stages as the group topper.
Spain vs Sweden Preview:
Spain has appeared in the European Championship with an inexperienced side. The former Barcelona boss has decided to leave Real Madrid’s two experienced centre-backs Serio Ramos and Nacho Fernández out of the squad. And chose to go with Eric García who has not played many games for Manchester City in the last couple of seasons.
Alvaro Morata’s form in front of the goal will be a big headache for the Spanish boss, however, Gerard Moreno’s form in the recently concluded season will give Enrique much-needed confidence.
The biggest concern for the Spanish boss is in the defensive midfield position, following the positive Covid-19 test, captain Sergio Busquets will remain isolated for time being. And filling that void will be a big task for the Spanish side, even though they have Thiago Alcantara, Koke Resurrección and Rodrigo Hernández in the squad.
Sweden will be trying to snatch at least one point from the mighty Spain. The Blue and Yellows will be looking to stay compact and hit the opponent on the break by utilizing the raw pace of Alexander Isak.
The young Swedish forward had an excellent campaign in La Liga for Real Sociedad. The forward scored 17 goals last season in 34 league appearances. And the 21-year-old now has a bigger platform to showcase his talent to wider audiences.
