Gareth Southgate has announced the 26-man England squad ahead of Euro 2020, which is now taking place in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation prevailing in the previous year.

We are approaching the end of the season with two of the biggest European cups being decided in the past couple of weeks. After the UEFA Europa League and Champions League, the world is getting ready to witness Euro 2020. England’s National team boss has now finally announced the final 26 man squad yesterday. Just after a provisional 33 man squad released a week ago.

Gareth Southgate’s team will be playing two friendlies before their kick-off in the major European tournament. England manager would be looking forward to the friendlies as a way to find the appropriate starting 11. England will be facing Austria and Romania in their two friendlies respectively before the start of the tournament.

England will be high on their confidence levels coming in the Euro 2020. However, after reaching the semi-finals of World Cup 2018 they will now be looking forward to winning a major trophy.. The Three Lions are one of the favourites coming into this tournament with a very talented squad. It must have been quite difficult for the England boss to choose only 26 out of an exceptionally talented pool.

Here’s the 26-member squad of England national football team for the upcoming Euro 2020.

Goalkeepers : Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Sam Johnstone (West Bromwich Albion), Jordan Pickford (Everton).

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool). Ben Chilwell (Chelsea). Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers). Reece James (Chelsea). Harry Maguire (Manchester United). Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Declan Rice (West Ham United).

Forwards: Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Southgate’s decision to exclude Jessi Lingard and the inclusion of Trent Alexander-Arnold remained to be the major talking points. While Lingard had performed quite well for West Ham in the domestic league but unfortunately he misses out on the squad. On the other hand, the inclusion of Trent Alexander-Arnold will give Southgate a boost in the attacking aspect of the game.

England are placed in Group D alongside Croatia (Runner-ups in the 2018 FIFA World Cup), Czech Republic, and Scotland. Southgate’s team will be one of the favourites to finish at the apex of the group.

The Three Lions will kick off their campaign in the Euro 2020 by facing the runner-ups of FIFA World Cup 2018. It will be a rematch of the FIFA World Cup 2018 semi-finals and England will look for revenge this time. England will be facing Croatia, Scotland, and the Czech Republic respectively. It will be interesting to see who finishes at the top of the group to qualify in the round of 16.

The possible line-up for England could be in the formation of 4-3-3. With Jordan Pickford to be the first choice goalkeeper at the back. While Harry Maguire and John Stones paring as the center backs. And Kyle Walker and Ben Chilwell to play the role of right back and left back respectively.

In the midfield, the Three Lions could start with Jordan Henderson, as Southgate said his Leadership skills are crucial for the team. Mason Mount could play a key role in the attacking half along with Declan Rice, who had a pretty good season with West Ham. In the Forward line, there are a lot of options for Southgate. However, the striker position is fixed with Harry Kane leading the line for the Three Lions. Looking at the current form Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho could start as the wingers.

The fate of England National team in the Euro 2020 could possible end up winning the tournament. Although England are one of the favourites to win the tournament but looking at the other teams in the competition it might be possible that they might be knocked out in the semi-finals.
