Ethan Ampadu: the underutilized Chelsea product to go out on loan, again

About Football Express UK

The curious case of Ethan Ampadu doesn’t seem to end this season either. The Blues are looking to send Ampadu on a season-long loan. The Welsh joined Chelsea in 2017. During his two-season stint in the first team, he made a total of 12 appearances. One o those came in the Premier League. He was loaned to RB Leipzig in 2019. The following year, he gathered 29 appearances for Sheffield United on loan. Last summer, he was sent out on loan to Venezia in the Serie A. Ampadu was a pivotal part of the Venezia side. He played a total of 30 matches across all competitions and also contributed three assists. The versatile 21-year-old played as a center-back, a defensive midfielder, and a right-back at times.

This season a host of Italian sides are interested in signing him. Sampdoria, Spezia, Empoli and Cremonese are all interested in him. Empoli does hold the edge in the race. Paolo Zanetti, the coach of Empoli, managed the player last season in Venezia. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the player and could further develop him.

Chelsea and the Ethan Ampadu case:

Chelsea is said to be holding off any potential move for the Welshman until they sign another defender. The blues have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. But they did miss out on De Ligt and Jules Koundé. They are reported to make an improved offer for Wesley Fofana after their 70 million pounds was rejected. Leicester still holds the same position. They want to keep Fofana. But they won’t mind selling him if the bid is too big to say no to. Chelsea seems to have exactly that in mind, with a significant offer on the way.

Thomas Tuchel isn’t too pleased with the players he has. With almost all the starter’s last league games almost in their thirties. Tuchel also expects a striker after Lukaku and Timo Werner leave the club. Their scoring woes were visible in the narrow one-goal victory over Everton last Saturday.
