Donny Van De Beek to leave Manchester United this summer?

About Football Express UK

Red Devils are very likely to sell Donny Van De Beek this summer. The talented midfielder arrived from Ajax but is not played much. He has barely played this season and has started only twice.  According to Fabrizio Romano, there are huge chances that he will leave.

Manchester United wrong to sell Donny Van De Beek?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a central midfielder but has not used talented midfielder Donny at all. The Red Devils need a defensive midfielder because of a lack of options. They will likely let go of some first-team players to generate funds. Donny Van De Beek joined Ajax in 2020. He along with his former club Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018/19.

The 2018/19 Ajax squad made a prestigious name for themselves. In that season, Donny had a G/A of 30 in 56 games in all competitions. At Ajax, he along with Frenkie De Jong ran the show. The latter has made a name for himself at FC Barcelona. He ran the midfield for Ajax but at United, he was barely used. While he is a player with great technical abilities and is a goal-scoring central midfielder. Gifted with a natural spatial awareness he is a worthy midfield asset.

Even without the ball, his off movements are deadly as he draws out many opponents. As a result, he creates good opportunities for his teammates. The argument can be made that he was not played at United due to a lack of defensive abilities. Two midfield positions are occupied by Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes leaving the defensive midfield empty.

While this is a logical reason, this does not imply that he was not of use to the Red Devils. Donny Van De Beek could have been played many times but Mctominay and Fred played over him. If played he could have been a useful asset and a perfect substitute for Bruno Fernandes
