Defender Arsenal signed at €31m, now valued €100m

Arsenal defender William Saliba is now worth around €100m(£85m), according to CIES Football Observatory. Gunners signed him from Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne around €31m(£27m) in 2019.

He spent the next year on loan with Saint-Étienne before going to OGC Nice for the 2020/21 season and then Marseille for 2021/22.

William Saliba made his Arsenal debut in the 2022/23 season with the opening match against Crystal Palace. Since then he has been a regular in the starting eleven alongside Gabriel Magalhães. He now has 50 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League alone.

It can often take time for new arrivals to get up to speed with the Premier League. In the case of defenders, that can sometimes lead to a few teething problems early on in their career, but with Saliba, there were no such problems.

William Saliba now Valued same as Declan Rice

Arsenal defender is now worth the same as Declan Rice. Midfielder Arsenal signed in the summer. defenders don’t value that much, they need to have quality. Saliba who at the age of 18 was already being spoken of as one of the best defensive prospects in Europe and a “future leader” by many.

William Saliba is now 3.14 times more valuable than when he first put pen to paper, perhaps the club knew exactly what they were doing with his development all along.

Some were slamming Arteta for letting Saliba go back-to-back loan. When he debuted for Arsenal we can see the difference. He was developed by the loan spells. Last season and also this season he is the main defender for Arsenal’s title charge.

Arteta and Edu are on clearly on the same wavelength regarding recruits and have assembled an incredibly talented team over the last four years, even if some pundits couldn’t see the vision.
