De Jong is disgusted by Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong reportedly was ‘disgusted’ by Barcelona after boss Xavi let him know of the club’s decision to sell him to Old Trafford over a phone call.

Frenkie came back for training at the Camp Nou on Monday before Red Devil transfer heads Richard Arnold and John Murtough flew to Barcelona to conclude a deal between the sides. They met with the Catalan club’s president Joan Laporta and the club’s transfer officials.

Old Trafford already had a transfer fee agreed initially with the Catalan giants for the value of £56.2million. Catalan TV station TV3 now reported that a total package worth £72million has been agreed now. On Monday, night, the Barcelona Boss called De Jong to inform him of the transfer.

The Dutch playmaker is understanding of Barcelona’s economic position and their need for the sale. But the way in which they have approached the transfer has left the midfielder disheartened. He has felt isolated in the negotiation.

Although, De Jong has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona. On the other hand, neither De Jong nor his agent is ready to achieve a reduced salary. He wants the club to clear out all the remaining salaries.

As the situation seems, United may be forced to look at other targets as the season starts nearby. Barcelona and the Dutchman reportedly met and had a discussion over the current situation. Seems like De Jong isn’t still keen on accepting a reduction in a paycheck as he doesn’t consider himself to be the reason for the club’s financial crisis. On the other hand, United have reportedly handed De Jong an ultimatum. They want the deal closed by this week or will start looking elsewhere.
