Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be missing Manchester United’s opening match in the Premier League. The Red Devils open their season in the League against Brighton and Hove Albion on 7th August. The star striker has been in the news recently for his wish to play Champions League next season.
It has been known that he wants to leave United this season. This explains his absence from the pre-season practice matches. He was not even on the tour when United toured Australia and Thailand.
He had requested the management to exclude him from the squad citing personal issues. Moreover, he was even granted permission to be absent from the tours. Recently, it was learned that his agent is scouting the market for teams.
However, unfortunately, he had no luck, yet. First, he approached Chelsea who turned down his offer and declined to sign him. Additionally, Bayern Munich was also approached and they also rejected to sign Ronaldo.
Real Madrid are also not interested to re-sign the legend. Therefore, he is thought to be still eager to make a move to a Champions League playing team.
Cristiano Ronaldo was pictured training in a Portugal jersey
The new season of the Premier League starts in just two weeks. However, now the Daily Mail reports that Ronaldo could miss the opening match of United against Brighton in the new campaign.
However, he was pictured in a Portugal jersey. He did not have any pre-season training. Therefore, he is woefully short of any game time. On the other hand, the Red Devils are slated to play Atletico Madrid this weekend with their first team. After that, they end their pre-season with a match against Rayo Vallecano.
Though Ronaldo’s absence is obvious to hurt United there is light at the end of the tunnel. As Antony Martial has been in some sparkling form in the pre-season and this form could be a sort of a stress buster for Erik Ten Hag.
