Copa America 2021 Final: Brazil vs Argentina Preview

Premier League player

Brazil host arch-rivals Argentina in the final of Copa America 2021 on Sunday morning. After some dominant performances in the group stages and knockouts, the two “eternal” rivals face each other in an epic climax.

The Little Canaries were superb in their first three fixtures but then, were a bit weak towards the semis. In contrast, the Albiceleste have improved considerably after their initial group matches. Lionel Messi hasn’t won an international trophy yet with his country and has a chance now.

Similarly, Neymar Junior is also keen on winning his first international trophy as the hosts won it last time without him. Earlier, Colombia defeated Peru 3-2 and finished as third-best team in this year’s Copa America.

Brazil vs Argentina : Preview

Despite helping Argentina reach four major finals, Lionel Messi has never won anything for them. In the 2007 Copa America final, they were humiliated 3-0 by Brazil. Similarly, in the 2015 and 2016 editions too, Messi was defeated, this time by another nation – Chile.

In the 2014 World Cup, Messi had a similar fate as the Germans won 1-0 against the Argentines. Last season, once again, Brazil marched ahead of their rivals with a 2-0 win in the semifinals. But, Messi and co were successful in a 1-0 win in an international friendly against the Selecao.

However, the team had evolved and the Albiceleste are now simply more than Messi alone! Many players have stepped up but it would be a difficult task against the tournament favourites, Brazil. Tite has moulded a brilliant Brazil team and most of the team members have played at least one match for their country this time around.

However, both sides are concerned about their sloppy defence and a lack of creativity amongst midfielders. Neymar Junior and Messi are the top performers of the tournament but only one of them could celebrate with the trophy! Argentina are on a 19-match unbeaten streak whereas the Brazilians are on a 13-match unbeaten streak!

Superclasico de las Americas” had occurred 111 times and the Canarinho have won 46 as compared to Albiceleste, who won 40 matches. Whereas, the rest 25 matches ended as draws.
