Copa America 2021: Brazil 3-0 Venezuela Post-Match Analysis

Bertrand Traore

Brazil kicked off the Copa America title defence in style by thrashing Venezuela by a margin of 3-0. Marquinhos, Neymar Junior and super-sub Gabigol scored the three goals for the Selecao.

Although the Little Canaries were too hot to handle, the score could have been more devastating if the hosts were more clinical. Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus missed some chances although the team won comfortably.

La Vinotinto were comparatively weaker in terms of their attacking play as opponent goalkeeper Alisson Becker was tested hardly. As it stands, Brazil will be topping Group B.

Brazil 3-0 Venezuela : Analysis

Brazil dominated throughout the whole match with around 62% possession and the attackers were firing at all cylinders. In addition to this, the defenders too were going upfront.

As a result, the first goal was from Marquinhos, who took advantage of the hapless defending from the visitors. Surprisingly, Alisson was hardly kept busy as his team just faced a single shot on target. Neymar Junior failed to capitalize at times as the opponent defenders were too strong fro him. Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus and him missed a lot of chances in the first half.

However, in the 64th minute, Neymar slotted home a cool penalty goal to increase the lead even further. As a result, he is just 10 goals behind Pele’s record of being an all-time topscorer (77 goals for Brazil). He was in phenomenal form as he also assisted Gabigol for their third goal in the 89th minute.

Notable Performances :

Neymar Junior (8/10) – The 29-year-old forward was superb and was clearly providing the team what was expected from him. As a result, he truly deserved to be the team’s best player.

Danilo (7/10) – He was playing well as an all-rounder defender. Additionally, he helped the hosts to win a penalty, which was well converted by Neymar.

Renan Lodi (5/10) – The Atletico Madrid player wasn’t at his top form and even picked up a booking.
