Copa America 2021: Preview and Predictions for Brazil

Fulham

Copa America commences on Monday, 13th June hosted by Brazil and the final is scheduled for 11th July. However, amidst the rising COVID-19 cases, hosts Brazil are thinking about the cancellation of this major tournament.

If the tournament is not withdrawn, then also Brazil under Tite would be the top favourites to lay their hands on the trophy. The Little Canaries have always been balanced in terms of the quality in their players and have been one of the most dangerous sides in the world. They arrive in the tournament as the defending champions, winning it nine times.

After the 7-1 thrashing at home by Germany at home in 2014 World Cup semifinals, the Samba Kings got better. They went on to win the Olympics Gold medal in 2016 and then, recently the Copa America 2019. Additionally, their both goalkeepers, Ederson and Alisson Becker are on top form this season.

Copa America 2020 : Brazil National Football team Preview

Although Brazil have won the most World Cups (5) than any other team, their form in the 2014 and 2018 World Cup was frustrating to watch. But, their beautiful style of play has always credited them with a lot of trophies.

However, in the last edition of Copa America, they were undefeated throughout the whole campaign. They are also in a scintillating form in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers this season winning all the five matches played so far.

Casemiro has a new challenge ahead of him as the new captain for the Selecao. Strikers like Richarlison and Vinicius Junior would be carrying high hopes and the return of veterans, Dani Alves and Thiago Silva would be the perfect experience the squad would need right now.

The form of Neymar Junior would be once again the decisive factor as he was displaying poor form for Brazil in the last world cup. The squad has been announced for the World Cup qualifiers this month and it is as follows :

Goalkeepers : Ederson (Manchester City), Alisson Becker (Liverpool) and Weverton (Palmeiras) ;

Defenders : Danilo (Juventus), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Daniel Alves (Sao Paulo), Renan Lodi (Atletico Madrid), Eder Militao (Real Madrid), Marquinhos (Paris Saint Germain), Thiago Silva (Chelsea) and Lucas Verissimo (Benfica).

Midfielders : Casemiro (Real Madrid), Lucas Pacqueta (Lyon), Everton Ribeiro (Flamengo), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Fabinho (Liverpool) and Fred (Manchester United);

Forwards : Neymar Junior (Paris Saint Germain), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), Everton Cebolinha (Benfica), Gabigol (Flamengo), Richarlison (Everton), Roberto Firminho (Liverpool) and Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City).

Copa America 2020 : Brazil team schedule

Group A features Brazil alongside Columbia, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador. They face Venezuela on 13th June and then face Peru four days later. Then, they face Colombia on 24th June and Ecuador on 27th June.

Before the group matches, they are going to face Paraguay on 9th June in the World Cup qualifiers Group stage match. Brazil earlier defeated Ecuador 2-0 on 5th June.

Predicted Lineup and Fate of the Selecao

The possible lineup that could feature for the Verde-Amarela is as follows :

Ederson (GK); Alex Sandro (LB), Thiago Silva and Eder Militao (CB) and Dani Alves (RB); Casemiro, Lucas Pacqueta and Douglas Luiz as MFs and Neymar Junior, Vini Junior and Richarlison as the forwards.

Brazilians are expected to top Group A and Colombia finishing second. They have the chance to win the season as the rest teams are lacking the cutting edge. Will Thiago Silva end the season with another ‘troféu’ after the Champions League? Will they cope up without Fernandinho, David Luiz and Arthur Melo?
