CONMEBOL are desperately trying to find a way to hold the Copa America 2020 and Argentina are willing to win it for Lionel Messi. For Coronavirus the tournament was moved from 2020 to 2021. However, South America is still heavily affected by the Covid-19. Initially, Argentina and Colombia were going to host the biggest football spectacle the Copa America in a partnership.

However, due to the Pandemic and other political reasons Colombia backtracked from hosting the competition. Then Argentina got the chance to host Copa America 2020. But, the spike in new cases in Argentina forced CONMEBOL to give the hosting responsibility to Brazil.

However, Brazil are not so keen on taking this huge responsibility. As the Brazilian government are struggling to cope with the coronavirus and on top of that hosting Copa America is a daunting task for them. This uncertainty over competition has put doubts in mind that, will the Copa America take place at the scheduled time or not?

Nevertheless, we are going to talk about Argentina’s current situation. And how capable are they to give tribute to the late Diego Armando Maradona by winning the competition

Preview: Argentina National Football Team

Like every other international competition, Argentina will be hoping to see some magic from their talisman Lionel Messi. The 34-year-old forward has carried the Argentina national team to the final of Copa America twice. However, on both occasions, they fell short to Chile on penalties. La Roja won back to back Copa America in 2015 and 2016.

Argentina’s forward line might give some joy to La Albiceleste fans. The names like Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martínez can break any world-class defence. However, the usual problems they have at the back. The name Nicolás Otamendi won’t give much confidence either to the fans or the players. But, the goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez can be an exception to that.

Lionel Scaloni’s side are in group A alongside Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Bolivia. It might seem quite a tough group. But, the top four out of five will reach the knock-out stage and Argentina will certainly be one of them. And they should win the group stage.

The tournament will commence with a group B encounter between Brazil and Venezuela on 13th June. Argentina will start their campaign on the following day against Chile.

It will be a daunting task for Scaloni to shape his team’s defensive structure properly. So that despite having a fragile defence they don’t concede a lot. A good compact defence will help the world-class forward line to flourish themselves and give smiles to the supporters.

Prediction: Argentina National Football Team

This year the reigning champions Brazil will be the favourite to lift the cup yet again. And it will be a great achievement for Argentina if they can represent at least the final.

However, the Argentina national team have talents who can take the team over the line by themselves on bad days. So, even though the team might not look appealing to the naked eye. They can surprise the world with a good team spirit and desire to give everything for the country.

It will be a great summer for football lovers. Because Euro 2020 and Copa America will take place simultaneously. And Argentina will be looking to win the Copa America 2020 as a tribute to the late Diego Armando Maradona.
