Conte wasn’t the perfect one for Manchester United

About Football Express UK

It is reported that the Manchester United management was against the inclusion of Conte as a manager for the Red Devils. They firmly believed that the players would struggle to adapt to the Italian’s demands.

At that point in time, the management was also losing its trust in Ole and they were searching for options. After leaving Scudetto champions Inter Milan at the end of last season, many believed that Conte was looking forward to joining United.

Meanwhile, Conte who won the title with Chelsea in 2017 was out of work at the start of the winter while many speculated he would join Manchester United. The 52-year-old eventually joined Tottenham Hotspur in November replacing Nuno Santo.

Prior to his move to the Spurs move, Conte was heavily linked with replacing Ole at Old Trafford. Instead, the Red Devils decided to appoint Ragnick on an interim basis.

According to a source provided to the Daily Mail, Conte is recognised by United’s hierarchy as a great coach However they feel that his demands would not suit the current group of players at Old Trafford.

The report adds that United’s players would both individually and collectively struggle to adapt to Conte’s philosophy. It was given as one of the important reasons why they decided against the Italian.

A Manchester United source claimed:

“If Conte tells a player to do six things then he wants to see them do all six immediately.

He wants to be able to programme players to the minute details. We were not sure that was a great fit for us.”

However, since taking the reins in Manchester, Rangnick is also failing to provide clarity regarding his formation. One report claims that United players have doubt as to whether the German is the right man for the job.

United’s present situation

As things stand, Manchester United is placed 7th in the table securing 31 points in 19 matches. They lost in their recent clash against 8th placed Wolves and a series of agitation has been noted in the United dressing room.

As per reports, many footballers are finding it difficult to adapt Ralf Ragnick’s 4-2-2-2 formation. Many have even complained that the manager is unable to provide clarity to the players regarding his tactics.

On the other hand, Conte who has been doing fairly well with his Tottenham side faced a blow against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Italian tactician would be looking forward to turning things around and giving The Spurs a title in their hand.
