Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres seems to have ruled out a potential January transfer to Chelsea. The 25-year-old forward moved to the Portuguese club from Coventry City last summer. Thus, having scored 21 goals for the club in the Championship the previous season.

The Sweden international has maintained his impressive form this season. Thus, scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists in just 25 matches.

Chelsea is eager to bolster their goal-scoring options this month. And recent reports from Portugal suggest that the Premier League side has made an offer of £73 million for Viktor Gyokeres. Part of this proposed deal is said to include performance-related bonuses.

As per reports, Sporting rejected what Chelsea offered. Since, Gyokeres has a release clause of around £86 million. When asked about Chelsea’s interest, Gyokeres emphasized that he is fully focusing on Sporting at the moment. Hence, he is not thinking about the potential future.

What did Gyokeres say about the Chelsea rumors?

Gyokeres said: “I don’t think anything about it. I’m here and we have important games to play, I’m focused on that.”

“There’s a lot of talk on social media and elsewhere, but I’m not focused on that I don’t think about anything else. I’m here right now. I’m 100% focused on this and the club.”

In January of the previous year, Chelsea conducted business with Sporting’s fierce rivals, Benfica, by securing Enzo Fernandez. The negotiations involved Chelsea seeing a number of proposals down the drains. That is before ultimately agreeing to pay his £106 million release clause.
