Chelsea vs Everton: Match Preview

Premier League player

The European Champions Chelsea will be looking to stay on track as they welcome Everton. The Blues are currently 3rd in the table and will not want to slip up in what is developing into a three-horse race for the Premier League title.

Chelsea is coming back from a 3-2 victory over Leeds United at the weekend. Everton on the other hand suffered another defeat, this time against Crystal Palace.

There is a worry for Everton manager Rafael Benitez, who is under a lot of pressure due to his side’s poor form. The Toffees are currently sitting at 14th place in the table, 7 points above the relegation zone. As for Chelsea, there are questions being raised about their defense with the host not keeping a clean sheet in their last four Premier League match.

The Blues have been hampered by multiple injuries in their squad, forcing manager Thomas Tuchel to make adjustments. Both Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic remain out of the team due to injury and Covid respectively.

There is positive news from the injury table with Trevoh Chalobah and N’Golo Kante both hopeful of returning to the team. However, it still remains to be seen if they can appear against Everton.

The visitors will be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, and Yerry Mina for selection. This further put pressure on Benitez, who is not having his full squad to choose from. Richarlison is also a doubt after picking a slight tweak in his calf during the match against Crystal Palace.

Allan, who is sustaining minor abductor trouble, is also a doubt alongside Andros Townsend. There is another rumor about a rift between the manager and Lucas Digne, which could mean the French left-back might be dropped.

Chelsea: Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen; Reece James, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Marcus Alonso; Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic; Romelu Lukaku

Everton: Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey; Andros Townsend, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan, Anthony Gordon; Demarai Gray; Salomon Rondon

PREDICTIONS: Chelsea 3 – 0 Everton

Though Chelsea has been shaky in the last few matches they still are the favorites. Thomas Tuchel will be hoping for both Kante and Chalobah to be available for selection. There is also the possibility of Lukaku starting the match.

For Everton, the injuries compound their lack of form. While the victory against Arsenal seems to have lifted the mood, the poor performance against Crystal Palace has dampened the mood.

With Richarlison also injured, the Toffees will be left with Rondon and Gray as the main attacking outlet. This will be good news for Chelsea, who will want to have a clean sheet.
