Chelsea trying to swoop in two RB Leipzig players this summer

Chelsea

Chelsea’s season came to an end with a 2-1 victory over Watford in the Premier League at the Stamford Bridge. The Blues have endured a tough year, as they hope for a positive 2022/23 season. The club has therefore started their summer plans to ensure the squad is reinforced. Chelsea could lose almost half-a-dozen players this summer as the club is barred from extending any contracts. The club needs replacements and have begun to identify targets. Chelsea are now in talks to sign a talented RB Leipzig pair for the summer.

Chelsea defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have reportedly signed for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. Further on, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are also anticipating exits. Moreover, rumors are fresh that Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are on the transfer list as well. As a result, this could leave Chelsea with serious problems with no squad depth as such. To avoid the same, Thomas Tuchel has set his summer plans clear. RB Leipzig duo Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol are on Tuchel’s wish-list, according to Sky Germany.

Chelsea plans to raid RB Leipzig on Tuchel’s demand

Christopher Nkunku is one of the hottest prospects in the footballing world right now. The attacker has a whopping 35 goals and 20 assists to his name in all competitions this season. And as a result, his exploits have not gone unnoticed across Europe. Chelsea now looks to open talks with Nkunku in order to land him this summer. The Blues are facing a shortage of goals from their strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. Tuchel knows Nkunku could provide that spark in the attack and hence has demanded Chelsea sign the Leipzig star.

However, Europe’s elite clubs in Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and his former employers PSG have shown interest in Nkunku as well. Chelsea will have to fight the competition for the Leipzig player if they are to sign him. Nkunku’s current market value stands at £58.5 million, but Leipzig would certainly demand a higher fee if their asset is to leave. But the German club is not keen on selling Nkunku and wants to keep him beyond this summer.

Josko Gvardiol is another Thomas Tuchel target to bolster the Chelsea defence. Rumors flew in earlier as well that the Leipzig center-back has impressed Tuchel who wants him at Chelsea. Gvardiol, however, is a surprise name on Tuchel’s list for the summer. But the 20-year-old’s displays have been nothing less than solid this season. The youngster is already considered an important part of the Leipzig backline, making 46 appearances this season for the club. The defender posts 1.7 interceptions, 2 clearances, 1.1 aerial duels, and a tackle per game.

Chelsea have a lot of work to do before landing either of the Leipzig players. However, it’s certain that the West Londoners need players this summer to fill in the potential void which will be left by the outgoings. But it will take some convincing and a huge transfer fee to acquire both Nkunku and Gvardiol. Furthermore, Chelsea could take advantage of their healthy relationship with Leipzig formed during Timo Werner’s transfer.
