Chelsea to swap Werner for Inter Milan striker Lukaku

About Football Express UK

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan and Timo Werner could be included as a part of the swap deal. The 29-year-old forward’s future at the defending Serie A champions was uncertain due to the departure of former gaffer Antonio Conte.

Although Lukaku is fully committed to staying at the Milan club, the Blues are thinking about options to bring him back to the Premier League. Whereas Werner had a tough time at Stamford Bridge and is working towards recreating his splendid form at Leipzig.

The Belgian international has three more years left in his contract whereas Werner has four years more. Both the players have proven their goalscoring abilities but will a swap deal be beneficial for both of them?

A Chelsea reunion for Lukaku, new league challenge for Werner

Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan after a brief stint in the Premier League with Manchester United. However, the move turned beneficial for the Nerazzurri as they went on to win the Scudetto after almost a decade.

But, due to financial constraints, many players are en route to departing the club. Achraf Hakimi joined PSG and Lukaku was the next big target for the other clubs. His superb goalscoring form in Italy as well as for his national team, Belgium caught the eyes of one of his pre-recruiters, the Pensioners.

Chelsea are preparing for a monstrous £110 million deal for Lukaku according to Italian media outfit Corriere della Sera. And Werner could be a makeweight as per Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

After seeing such a big offer, Inter would be puzzled about keeping Lukaku at the club. As a result, it could pave way for a reunion with his former club. On the other hand, Werner was linked with Bayern Munich. A reunion with his former coach at RB Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann could have been possible.

The 25-year-old German striker had a sub-par season in England scoring just six goals and assisting 12 times in 35 appearances. However, he is very much a threat to opponents even though he scores very few goals.
