Chelsea pre-season has been highly successful so far, with the team in excellent form and preparation. With less than three weeks remaining before their Premier League opener against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino seems to have his squad well-prepared and in top shape.
While Chelsea’s pre-season has been impressive, not everything is perfect within the team. Mauricio Pochettino has reiterated his desire to sign at least one more midfielder to strengthen the squad further. Additionally, he aims to reduce the size of the playing squad significantly to create a more streamlined and efficient team.
Despite making impressive additions during the transfer window, Chelsea believes there is still room for more reinforcements. And one potential addition could be Montpellier’s Elye Wahi. The 20-year-old striker is reportedly considering a viable option for the Blues. Since, they seek to bolster their attacking options with additional strength and depth.
What is Chelsea planning with their midfield?
Chelsea currently possesses two raw but highly talented young strikers in Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja. Elye Wahi falls into the same category of promising players. The club made a £21 million ($27 million) offer for the French striker, which was rejected. However, it seems that Chelsea has learned from this initial setback and is now looking to progress further in their pursuit of Wahi.
Even if Chelsea is willing to meet the price for Wahi, the player may still be denied the move. On the other hand, Mohammed Kudus might outright reject a move to Stamford Bridge if given the choice.
Mohammed Kudus, the attacker, is in a strong link with a move to both Chelsea and Arsenal this summer. Although he is close to agreeing on personal terms with Chelsea, reports suggest that if an equal offer were to come from Arsenal, he would be more inclined to move to the north London club instead.
Mohammed Kudus had an impressive season with Ajax, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in the league. He is considered one of the most promising and dynamic forwards in Europe at his age. The 22-year-old Ghanaian forward would reportedly be content with a move to Chelsea for around £40 million ($51 million), but Arsenal’s interest is also genuine. Brighton is another club in the mix, as they have previously explored the possibility of signing the player earlier this year.
