Chelsea star Moises Caicedo deemed as failure according to McCoist

Ex-Scotland striker Ally McCoist dubbed Moises Caicedo of Chelsea as a failure this season. Despite being part of the summer spending, the Ecuadorian international has been failing to live up to expectations.

Chelsea spent heavily in the summer, pushing Todd Boehly’s total spending on new signings past £1 billion. However, the team, currently 10th in the Premier League, must significantly improve to secure a spot in European competition.

Many of Chelsea’s summer signings, including Caicedo, are struggling to find their rhythm, according to McCoist. Despite the challenges faced by Manchester United’s Onana and Hojlund, the former Rangers star deems Caicedo as the standout failure of the season.

What did McCoist say about Chelsea signing?

McCoist said: “Andre Onana has been nothing like the signing everyone thought he would be for Manchester United, but I’m not giving him ‘flop of the season so far’. I think that’s ever so slightly harsh.”

“But Moises Caicedo, I saw him a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford with Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park. And both of them were, for a quarter of a billion pounds, not great… Caicedo would certainly get my vote over Onana.”

Chelsea identified Caicedo as their top choice in the summer. But a deal with Brighton was only finalized in the closing moments of the transfer window. With Liverpool attempting and failing to secure the move.

Caicedo is the perfect partner for Fernandez in Chelsea’s midfield. Along with Conor Gallagher,it was hopeful, they can properly form an indestructible midfield trio.

Despite being frequently linked with a move away, the latter (presumably Gallagher) has been excelling this season. Thus, surpassing expectations and outperforming the more expensive partnership he was to replace.
