Chelsea showing interest in PSG defender Kimpembe

About Football Express UK

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe in this transfer window.

The 25-year-old has played under the Blues manager Thomas Tuchel at PSG. During the German’s tenure, the defender has established himself as an integral part of the French club’s system.

However, following Sergio Ramos’ arrival at the French capital, the France international has found himself in a tough situation and is considering his future away from PSG. However, the defender will get enough playing time under Mauricio Pochettino as Ramos, 35, will not be available to play every game of the season.

Chelsea are admirers of Kimpembe and want to bring him to bolster the defensive options. The Blues played with the back three systems last season under Tuchel. So, they will need strengthening in that area as Thiago Silva, 36, suffered injuries quite often last campaign.

Can Chelsea sign Kimpembe from PSG?

L’Equipe stated that Kimpembe is considering his future away from the French capital following the arrival of Sergio Ramos as the 25-year-old defender will face tough competition for his first-team appearance.

The French outlet further stated that Chelsea are the long term admirer of Kimpembe. And they want to bring him in at the English capital. However, the Blues will not get an easy way through for this deal as the defender still has three years remaining in his current contract and Pochettino does not want to lose the centre back.

Chelsea have enough firepower in the defensive position and it will not harm their squad to add a new face in that department. However, they must go all out for a new centre-forward. The Blues have invested heavily last summer and mostly bought the attacking midfielders.

The London club bought Timo Werner to sort out the centre forward problem. But, the German is not a natural striker. Even though the 24-years-old scored plenty for RB Leipzig, he was mainly deployed as a secondary striker. So, expecting him to become a centre forward was never going to be the case.

Following the departure of Oliver Giroud and Tammy Abraham who is not in Tuchel’s plan, it is an absolute necessity to bring in a prolific goal scorer to close the gap at the top of the Premier League to Manchester City. So, buying Kimpembe will make Chelsea defence extremely strong. But, they will need forwards to score goals to win matches.
