Chelsea reveals Sanchez is back for training ahead of EFL final

Wright Chelsea's Potter

Chelsea states that Robert Sanchez trained this week for Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Liverpool. The Blues squad prepares for the Wembley trip, aiming to secure the Carabao Cup against Liverpool, a rematch from 2022.

Robert Sanchez, aged 26, sidelined since December due to a knee injury, was Chelsea first-choice goalkeeper. Consequently, 24-year-old Djordje Petrovic has excelled as his replacement.

Despite recovering from injury last week, Pochettino revealed Sanchez was absent from Chelsea weekend draw with Manchester City. That is due to a personal issue. Fortunately, the Spanish goalkeeper has rejoined training just before the cup final. May Sanchez does not experience any issue during this time.

Yesterday, Chelsea official website confirmed Sanchez trained with the team at Cobham. Now, all attention shifts to the starting lineup against Liverpool.

Chelsea might not let Sanchez play in the final

In October, Pochettino praised Sanchez as “great” in The Daily Mail. However, we believe Petrovic has exceeded his performance levels in recent months.

Chelsea should stick with the in-form Petrovic, who is performing exceptionally well leading into the high-pressure environment of a cup final. Fans will hope the Blues grant the Serbian keeper the number one status for the remainder of the season as well!

With Liverpool’s strong position in the league and their formidable attacking prowess, Chelsea may require a standout performance from their goalkeeper this weekend to secure silverware. This may be the last chance for the Blues to save their disaster season if they win the title.
