Chelsea ready to sell striker after impressive season out on loan

Armando Broja

Chelsea are reportedly ready to part with their striker Armando Broja. The Chelsea academy graduate spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Southampton. Broja has impressed while on loan and attracted a lot of clubs’ attention. However, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was keen on giving Broja a chance in the first-team next season. But the situation has changed as Goal reports that Chelsea are ready to hear offers for the striker this summer. Chelsea’s sanctions meant the club couldn’t conduct any business in the transfer market. As a result, the club planned to utilize their academy players out on loan with Broja being one of them.

Chelsea’s takeover by American billionaire Todd Boehly has been green-lit by both the Premier League as well as the UK government. This means the club can now resume its transfer activities starting this summer. The Londoners are now targeting many transfers since the sanctions didn’t allow them to extend many of their players. And the door has opened for them to make sales as well. However, Broja’s Chelsea future now faces uncertainties as the club could now go for elite strikers in the market.

Chelsea striker could be on his way out in the summer

Broja joined Southampton on loan from Chelsea at the start of the 2021/22 season. The striker became a quick hit with the Saints, scoring 9 goals in 32 games for Southampton. The Premier League clubs turned their attention to Broja in a bid to land him from Chelsea. Southampton too expressed their strong desire to sign the striker permanently from Chelsea. However, the Blues were reluctant to consider any offers since Tuchel wanted the youngster for next season. But since Chelsea can now go for bigger names, they are ready to let Broja go.

Lots of Premier League clubs have lined up to acquire the Chelsea academy striker. Arsenal were the first ones to enquire about Broja since the Gunners are in a dire need of a striker. And now, Newcastle United and West Ham have emerged as the latest candidates to register their interest in Broja. The 20-year-old’s market value has risen to £16 million after his displays with the Saints. Chelsea however have set an asking price of £25 million for their academy product.

But Southampton could get the priority who wants to sign Broja permanently. Moreover, interest has been shown from outside of England as well. Serie A clubs AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli too are keeping tabs on Broja’s situation at Chelsea. The Blues have had bitter experiences of letting their academy players leave the club. Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori left for Roma and AC Milan respectively and have reached new heights. Therefore it would be better if Chelsea handle their academy players carefully this time.

Meanwhile, the Magpies and the Hammers have shown a strong interest of late. Newcastle are improving massively under Howe and are continuing with bolstering their squad. It would be up to Broja to decide whether to join Howe’s rebuilding at Saint James’ Park. West Ham seems frustrated with their striker Michail Antonio‘s poor performances and wants to replace him with the Chelsea striker. The Hammers who have been consistently fighting for a top-four finish could well attract Armando Broja.
