Chelsea ‘preparing’ world record bid for Leicester City defender

About Football Express UK

Chelsea are preparing a world-record bid for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana as the Blues continue to bolster the defence.

The Blues have had a couple of players leave this summer and two major ones being from the defensive cover. The exits of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have made Thomas Tuchel turn to the transfer market for defenders.

Moreover, after snapping up the services of Kalidou Koulibaly, Chelsea are set to prepare a bid for Wesley Fofana. The Blues are preparing to offer a world record fee that will be submitted later this week.

Chelsea prepare record bid for Fofana

Chelsea have already had an offer rejected for the French international, however, they are still keen to land him at Stamford Bridge. The club already paid £35m on Koulibaly and are now open to splashing more than double for the Leicester ace.

The Foxes turned the initial offer by Chelsea which was said to be in the region of £70m for Fofana. However, now the Blues are ready to land the centre-back with a new improved offer and could tempt Leicester.

Chelsea were on the verge of losing Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona in the window as the two parties reached agreement. However, the skipper decided to stay and renew his contract which has handed the Blues a big boost in defence.

Now, Tuchel is pushing for the centre-back with the likes of Fofana and hoping to complete the signing this week. Chelsea had also attempted to offer players in the initial bid for the defender but were not successful.

However, the negotiations are still open and the two clubs remain in contact over a potential move to the Bridge. It will be interesting if Tuchel can finally get the player in this transfer window before it concludes.
