Chelsea optimistic about Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong

Chelsea are confident that they can negotiate a contract for the Dutch playmaker Frenkie de Jong. Till now Tuchel has been primarily focusing on getting proper replacements for the departed center halves. Also, the frontline has got some attention for a revamp as well. The midfield has looked to be last on the priority list for the Chelsea boss ahead of the new season.

That being said, a deal to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa was announced to be in place on Tuesday. The West Londoners are doing everything possible to make this deal happen. According to The Athletic, the Blues are pushing to get a deal for de Jong, who has been in talks with the Red Devils.

Frenkie de Jong’s former boss, Erik ten Hag has been keen to add the playmaker to his squad. Nevertheless, even after an agreement on financial terms several weeks ago, it has been claimed consistently that de Jong is not in favor of a move to the Theatre Of Dreams.

Reportedly, de Jong is looking at Chelsea over United due to the Red Devils missing out on Champions League football this year. The Athletic says, Chelsea are in talks with the Catalan giants and are pretty confident about the deal going through.

Frenkie de Jong previously said that he wishes to continue his future at Camp Nou. This comment though came before the interest from Chelsea was heard of. President Laporta has also mentioned that they’re interested in retaining the services of the 25-year-old playmaker.
