Sporting Lisbon will not have much negotiation space regarding their striker Viktor Gyokeres when dealing with Chelsea. There have been rumors connecting Chelsea with Viktor Gyokeres. And discussions have surfaced about the Blues potentially making a substantial bid for the 25-year-old.

Yet, as per Fabrizio Romano, Sporting will permit Gyokeres to depart only if his €100m (£85.8m) release clause is activated. Writing on Substack, the transfer expert stated, he received information that Sporting will not entertain negotiations below that figure.

This season, the Sweden international has made a significant impression by scoring 20 goals across all competitions. This outstanding performance underscores why Sporting holds him in high regard and is unwilling to part with him for anything less than the player’s release clause.

If Chelsea intends to secure Gyokeres’s signature, it appears they will need to meet his entire release clause. Gyokeres is establishing himself as a formidable striker, consistently finding the back of the net without difficulty. His prowess in front of goal has earned him praise, with his former Coventry City teammate Maxime Biamou describing him as “unplayable” in the past.

Will Chelsea really go for Gyokeres?

This marks Gyokeres’s inaugural season of standout performance in a top European league, and the sample size is relatively small. Before Chelsea considers paying the currently mentioned fee, he would need to exhibit further consistency and success.

If Sporting becomes more amenable to negotiation, the dynamics could shift slightly. However, for an expenditure close to £90m, Chelsea might be better off exploring alternative options.

A player who likely justifies such a fee is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. He is always demonstrating his capability of scoring goals at the top level. However, acquiring a player of such caliber won’t be a straightforward task, given his significant importance to his current team.
