Chelsea may surpass their transfer limits yet again next season

Although January passed quietly for Chelsea, reports suggest they’re gearing up to break another transfer record in the summer. Hindered by FFP regulations, Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t secure any new signings last month, in stark contrast to last year when owner Todd Boehly spent over £320 million on transfers.

However, Chelsea will engage in more transfer activities this summer, with acquiring a new goalkeeper a notable priority for Pochettino. While the Argentinian secured Robert Sanchez from Brighton in pre-season for £20 million, the goalkeeper has struggled to make an impact. And is currently in the sidelines due to a knee injury sustained in December.

Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga is currently on loan at Real Madrid. He has openly stated his wish to remain at the Bernabeu beyond his temporary deal. However, reports from Spain suggest that the La Liga giants are not interested in making his move permanent.

Transfer targets Chelsea are eager to secure

According to CalcioMercato, Chelsea is preparing to pursue AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 28-year-old has impressed in Serie A this season, drawing interest from several European clubs.

However, with Maignan’s contract extending until 2026, AC Milan is reluctant to part with the former Lille player at a low price. Reports suggest they are seeking a fee surpassing £70 million. Thus, potentially requiring Chelsea to break their own transfer record to secure his signature.

Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is currently filling in for Chelsea but isn’t seen as a long-term solution by Pochettino. Whether they pursue Maignan could hinge on their readiness to bolster other areas of the team.

The Premier League club remains linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian has a high possibility of moving to England next season.
