Chelsea looking to sell Romelu Lukaku in the upcoming transfer window

Lukaku to be seen in Newcastle

Journalist Ben Jacobs anticipates Chelsea being more inclined to sell Romelu Lukaku permanently than Mykhaylo Mudryk during the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window. Additionally, he foresees potential departures for players such as Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall from Stamford Bridge.

Co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly has invested significant time and resources in bolstering the Blues’ squad. That is during his initial four transfer windows at the club. However, despite considerable expenditure, he has encountered limited success in enhancing the team.

Mauricio Pochettino faced a variable beginning to his tenure at Chelsea. Thus, aspiring for greater consistency in performances and results throughout the 2023/24 season. Lukaku, currently with Roma, has struggled to make a significant impact since his high-profile transfer from Inter in the summer of 2021.

In order to adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, Chelsea must offload several key players. That is to accommodate new signings. The club possesses a surplus of players within their squad and on loan. And they aim to revitalize their pursuit of Champions League success.

Chelsea will be hoping to offload players in hopes of recruiting more

Boehly’s lavish spending was exemplified by the signing of Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2022, potentially costing £88.5 million. The 23-year-old, inexperienced in Europe’s major leagues, has only managed eight goal contributions in the Premier League.

However, Chelsea are expected to prioritize selling players in the reserves or out on loan once the summer transfer window commences in June. The club aims to permanently sell Lukaku this year, setting a £37 million price tag. Roma, where Lukaku currently plays, are reportedly willing to meet this valuation if he maintains his form.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will require any interested parties to meet Maatsen’s £35 million release clause, as the left-back seeks playing time on loan at Borussia Dortmund. The Independent suggested that Tottenham Hotspur were considering a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. With a potential deal estimated to be around £50 million.
