Why have Chelsea decided to Sign a Striker like Romelu Lukaku this season?

Last season Chelsea had two top goal scorers, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham. Both of them scored 12 goals. Due to this Chelsea have been not scoring enough goals even when their xG was higher. With a talented forward like Romelu Lukaku, the club can challenge the title. According to FBREF, Romelu Lukaku is in the top 90% of strikers in Europe in the following stats. (Per 90).

  1. Non-penalty Expected Goals
  2. Expected assists
  3. Assists
  4. Shot Creating Chances
  5. Touches in the penalty box
  6. Progressive passes received

In a 3-4-2-1 formation, Romelu Lukaku can play as the Striker who plays as a Target Man. In a 3-4-1-2, he can play beside Timo Werner with Kai Havertz as the central-attacking-midfielder. Timo Werner with his pace can pick up the second ball and run past the defensive line.

With this Chelsea seem to be a formidable force to be reckoned with. It must be said, the expectations from the club to win the league is much higher now. It will only be time if we see Chelsea do a double or win the Premier League next season.
