Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that discussions were held with intermediaries over a possible move for Spurs Harry Kane this summer.
The England captain allegedly informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave at the back end of the 2020-21 campaign. He was widely expected to complete a move to a title-challenging club in the most recent transfer window.
However, Kane confirmed that he would be staying back at Spur through a social media post. While Chelsea broke the bank to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in a £97.5 million deal.
Tuchel has now revealed that while talks were held, Kane was never interested in moving to Stamford Bridge. We never had a list with his name on it and I never went to Marina (Granovskaia) to tell her to buy him.
“But the club sorted out the situation. There are many people around players – their agents. Advisors and people in between and we had some information from these people. But it was never that close. ,” said Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
Will Harry Kane upset Chelsea by scoring goals?
Tuchel started comparing Lukaku and Kane, insisting that the Belgian is the perfect fit for how Chelsea play football.
Tuchel has also admitted that he expected Kane to join Manchester City this summer. But the English champions’ pursuit did not bear fruit. A recent report claimed that City will not try again for the striker in 2022.
Tuchel’s Chelsea will look to take on Tottenham under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo on Sunday, where new Blues’ signing Lukaku will look to improve on his already impressive run so far this season.
Tuchel went on to discuss how his club’s new number nine, Lukaku, compares to Tottenham’s Kane.
Chelsea will travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in matchday five of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
